ShotsNewsBot
ShotsNewsBot reads the public news feeds listed on our sources page, so SHOTS can show their headlines with a link to each story.
How it identifies itself
ShotsNewsBot/1.0 (+https://shots.news/bot; contact: publishers@shots.news)
What it does
- Reads only the feed addresses in our register, on the publisher’s own domain.
- Asks at most once every five minutes per feed, and less often when your feed’s
<ttl>or Cache-Control asks for that. - Sends
If-None-MatchandIf-Modified-Since, so an unchanged feed costs you almost nothing. - Backs off when your server is busy and honours
Retry-After. - Never stores your articles. It checks once that the picture in your feed loads; when the feed names none, it reads the top of the story page once for the picture you chose for sharing (
og:image) and keeps only its address.
How to control it
It obeys robots.txt. To stop it, add:
User-agent: ShotsNewsBot Disallow: /
Or write to publishers@shots.news or use the publishers page. We act within 24 hours.
