The National Space Operations Centre (NSpOC) recorded a slightly elevated risk level to UK interests in September 2026 compared with August, though all warning and protection services functioned throughout the period.

Re-entries rose 7% month-on-month to 58 objects: 51 satellites, five rocket bodies and two likely debris pieces.

Collision risks to UK-licensed satellites were 16% higher than in August but sat well below the 12-month rolling average, with 1,049 warnings issued.

One fragmentation incident involved a satellite in Low Earth Orbit; assessments are ongoing to determine how many debris pieces were released.

The in-orbit population grew by a net 163 objects added to the US Satellite Catalogue.

Space weather activity was lower than in August, with only limited solar radiation and geomagnetic storms recorded.
