UK government publishes transport resilience strategy for next decade

The Department for Transport has published its transport resilience strategy, setting out the government's direction for the transport sector over the next 5 to 10 years.

The strategy builds on the resilience action plan published in July 2025 and makes 22 practical commitments, including a new Transport Resilience Academy training initiative and the establishment of a sector-wide transport resilience network.

The strategy aims to better assess ongoing transport resilience, enable the whole system including transport users to take action, and strengthen government resilience capabilities.

The department said threats and hazards facing the transport system are becoming increasingly complex and unpredictable, and that disruption in one place can quickly have consequences elsewhere.

The strategy was developed with stakeholders from across government and the transport sector and has been placed in the libraries of both Houses.
