Sharjah ruler announces women's tower for Kalba near university clock tower
Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, has announced a women's tower to be built in Kalba near the University of Kalba, directly opposite the existing clock tower, which he said is not a suitable place for men, women and children to congregate together. The design is complete and work on the foundations is already underway. The new tower will sit to the west of the university, with Kalba Creek and an island to the east. Behind it is a public park with a large air-conditioned covered hall. The ruler described the park as a gift to the people of Kalba and said the model would be replicated in other areas. The objective, he said, is to give women a space to enjoy their time in complete privacy. The announcement was made on the 'Direct Line' programme on Sharjah Radio and TV.
