Peter L. Roper, of San Diego, pleaded guilty to one count of tax evasion after admitting he hid nearly $19 million in income earned between 2010 and 2021 through his La Jolla-based businesses, which marketed and sold purported federal tax credits across the United States. He did not report any of that income on tax returns or pay taxes to the IRS, and used business accounts to cover personal expenses while concealing assets by titling them in others' names. Among his purchases were a 2015 McLaren 650S Spider for $187,432.34 and a 2021 Aston Martin DBX for $277,698.50. Roper faces a maximum of five years in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 8. A federal district court judge will determine the sentence. IRS Criminal Investigation is handling the investigation.
