Aegean Prince defeated a field of six to win the G3 St Simon Stakes at Newmarket on Friday 30 October, making his first Group race appearance after a dominant handicap success at Haydock Park.

The Charlie Appleby-trained four-year-old, ridden by Kieran Shoemark, tracked Al Qareem early before being switched towards the far rail over four furlongs out. He took up the running at the three-furlong pole and held off a late challenge from Royal Playwright to win by two lengths, taking his career record to four wins from six starts.

Shoemark said Al Qareem fell away quicker than expected but that his mount quickened well and was straight to the line. He added that the Godolphin runner is lightly raced and may come on physically for the run, describing him as a classy individual who might be getting quicker with racing.
